English (KS2)

In KS2 English we equip the students with skills that will take them through the rest of their academic life and beyond, whilst catering to a range of abilities and learning styles.

We use a range of texts to develop inference skills and the students learn to express their observations in a structured and coherent manner. The texts that we study students to explore different experiences, times and cultures. These texts include: ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, ‘The Abominables’ and ‘Journey to Jo’burg’, to name a few.

KS2 students also have the opportunity to practise a range of writing styles in a safe and supportive environment.

In KS2 English we aim to:

  • Encourage the students to read for pleasure
  • Build confidence when reading aloud
  • Equip the students with basic skills such as how to use a dictionary and thesaurus
  • Promote the ownership students’ work by allowing them to proofread and edit their work
  • Develop the students’ understanding of basic Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, as outlined in the National Curriculum
  • Enable students to produce texts demonstrating a range of higher-level devices such as similes and metaphors.

All students will complete baseline testing to assure our teaching is tailored to their individual needs.
